Building the Daniel Boone Rifle DVD set featuring Mike Miller

$65.00

Noted gunbuilder Mike Miller from Edmonton, Kentucky uses his vast knowledge of American firearms to recreate a likely possibility of what must be very similar to what Daniel Boone would have carried: a brass-mounted, maple-stocked, long-barreled flintlock rifle with a wooden patchbox, featuring bold architecture that was prevalent prior to the Revolutionary War.

Mike demonstrates his techniques to teach how to build this traditional flintlock rifle. Starting with a curly maple stock blank, a long tapered and flared octagon barrel, a lock and some brass castings, Mike demonstrates in detail how you too can build a fine flintlock rifle that would have been common on the frontier among longhunters and early settlers. This four disc DVD set is 5 hours and 20 minutes of detailed instruction taped in HD on location at Mike Miller's shop.

Incredible work

I'm 22 and just trying to get into building flintlocks, I don't know much about it since all I have been able to do is read about it, but when I got this DVD set a lot of the intimidation went out the window. Mike Miller has done an incredible job making this instructional and it has helped me so much to have confidence going into my first rifle build. He goes over the tiniest details like relieving wood behind the tang of the barrel so it doesn't chip out when you shoot the rifle. I would have never thought of that. I could go on about how impressed I am with the details of Mike's instructional but you'd be reading this review all day. Long story short, it does help you in an incredible way to be able to watch a master gunsmith and to hear all of his helpful insights, the way he teaches is like having somebody hold your hand and walk you through the steps. It is packed full of information that would take me years of trial and error to figure out (if I was smart enough to recognize it) and will definitely save the first time rifle builder frustration. I highly recommend it to ANYONE interested in building flintlock rifles, and Mike's work is true craftsmanship.
