18th-Century Straight Razor

The steel and over quality of this razor is excellent. It's really great shaver. Please note: This razor is a flat ground razor. It has to be honed with paddle strop and stropping paste to maintain and hone the edge and make sure the blade is clean before use a clean leather strop to maintain between honing sessions. Do not use a honing stone. You may end up altering the grind and having to regrind the razor. "I made this mistake". I own over 20 straight razors and this blade has been getting the most use as of late. Being that this a historical interpretation, it's as good as any modern made straight if properly used or maintained due to the craftsmanship put into it.

If this is what razors were like in the 18th century, then I see now why so many reenactors have beards. Mr. Summerville says this comes ready to shave, but it isn’t razor sharp. I’ve spent hours trying to put an edge on it, but the curve of the blade makes it impossible.

Handle was broken upon delivery.

I bought this for my son as a Christmas gift. He recently got out of the Marines and can now learn how to actually use this and the strop that my sister purchased. Such a wonderfully fun purchase. Service was expedient as always. Jon & Co. are always such wonderful people. Thank you Jon!
