Fur Felt Civilian Tricorn - Tall BLACK

$350.00

This hat is very hand made and may take 16 to 28 weeks for shipment

From our premium line of Fur Felt Hats. We have used our fur felt blanks to create a civilian tricorn with tall sides and cocked in a more symmetrical way than the military hats. This hat is made from a hand blocked and hand stretched fur felt hat blank. This tricorn features 5-3/4" brim all around (this may be a bit shorter on the very largest sizes). We have trimmed these hats in a worsted wool tape for a smoother look. Finished with a linen hat band inside. Rosette cockade with pewter button on left side. These hats come standard with a hat stretcher to preserve the shape while not in use. Give head measurement. Specify trim color black or white. Maximum hat size 7-3/4.

These hats are made of extra-heavy weight rabbit fur felt that is blocked, stretched and finished in our shop. Besides the weight of the felt, probably the most distinguishing feature of these hats is the brim width: 5-3/4" or even a little more, depending on the hat size. That's a full inch taller than our wool-felt hats!

Looks sharp!

I bought one of these in 2009. I meant to submit a review at the time, but I tend to get side-tracked. Back then, I paid $98 plus shipping, and was very impressed with what showed up in the mail. The fur felt was perfectly stiff and virtually waterproof, as it should be. The tape was of equally high quality, and sewn onto the crown with obvious care. Even the liner was linen, when it would've been cheaper to just use cotton. I'd owned hats from much more expensive shops like Dirty Billy's, and as perfect as his hats usually are, my Townsend's tall black tricorn matched it in both craftsmanship and appearance... even after 13 years of service, it's held up amazingly well. I've yet to attend an event where at least one person didn't ask me, "Um, 'scuse me, but where'd you get your hat?" I wish there was a way to attach a photo like there is on most review sites (Yelp, Etsy, etc.)... then I wouldn't have to do ANY writing! But as there isn't, I'll end by saying that, although the price has gone up, this is a one-time investment you'll never need to replace, and works well with a variety of impressions. My hat's off (didja... didja see what I did there?) to Jas. Townsend for such a fantastic product... thank you.
